Did you know Pretzel Day is on April 26 of each year? We’ve got a great recipe to celebrate! Our Pretzel Salad dessert works well for fans of salty snacks and fans of sweet treats. This is a great “make ahead” dish that can be made a day ahead for your next potluck gathering.
Ingredients
1 8-oz. bag pretzels
1 stick margarine
1 6-oz. box strawberry gelatin
3 cups boiling water
1 pkg. Dream Whip®
1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese
1 cup sugar
6 ozs. strawberries
Optional Ingredient
Mint leaf as a garnish
Instructions
Crush pretzels fine. Reserve 1 cup for topping. Soften margarine and pour over pretzels. Press into 9 x 13-inch dish. Bake 10 minutes at 350° F. Mix gelatin with boiling water and cool. Mix Dream Whip®, cream cheese, and sugar, then whip. If mixture is too thick, add a little milk, when gelatin is almost thick, add strawberries. Spread cream cheese mixture on top of pretzels. Add gelatin. Top with remaining pretzel crumbs. Refrigerate until dish is set. Store covered in refrigerator for up to three days. If using mint leaf, add to top when serving.
How to Make this Recipe Lighter
– Use light butter or margarine.
– Use reduced fat cream cheese or Neufchatel cheese.
– Use a sugar substitute instead of sugar. We recommend checking the specific brand’s guidelines for proper conversion, as measurements may vary depending on the type of sugar substitute used.
– Use low-fat buttermilk.
