Rock Island, Ill. (October 24, 2025) – Royal Neighbors of America, one of the nation’s fastest growing fraternal life insurance organizations*, announces that the leadership team of One Eighty, a residential recovery and community resource
program based in Davenport, Iowa, has been named a 2025 recipient of its Nation of Neighbors empowerment award and will be presented with a $10,000 grant. The funding will strengthen One Eighty’s mission of helping women rebuild their lives
after trauma, addiction, incarceration, domestic abuse, homelessness, or sex trafficking.
Founded in 2010, One Eighty has guided hundreds of women and men through long-term recovery, offering safe housing, basic needs, emotional and spiritual
support, and access to physical and mental health care. In 2022, when the organization’s founder stepped down, leadership was entrusted to three women serving as co-executive directors: Jenny Halupnik (Director of Engagement), Carmen Fish (Director
of Finance), and Dakotah Smith (Director of Operations). Together, they launched a strategic plan to transform One Eighty from a grassroots effort into a thriving nonprofit organization with a stronger presence in the community.
“Jenny,
Carmen, and Dakotah are reshaping what recovery means in our community,” said Zarifa Reynolds, CEO and President of Royal Neighbors of America. “They are not only guiding women through healing, but also building a foundation of strength,
dignity, and opportunity. Their collaborative leadership embodies the spirit of our mission to Insure Lives, Support Women, and Serve Communities℠.”
At the heart of their work is One Eighty’s 14-month Develop Residential
Recovery Program, which provides women with housing, job training, life skills, and a supportive community to help them transition into independence. The program incorporates the Recovery Capital service model, ensuring that each participant builds
the personal, social, and economic resources needed for long-term stability. Each woman is paired with a Recovery Navigator who develops an individualized plan and walks with her through every step of the journey.
The $10,000 Royal Neighbors grant will allow One Eighty to invest more deeply in recovery services in three key ways:
“Recovery is about more than just overcoming addiction or crisis—it’s about whole-life transformation,” said One Eighty Co-Director Dakotah Smith, herself a graduate of the program. “This award affirms that our work matters,
and it will directly help more women and families in our community find hope, healing, and a future.”
Through initiatives such as its Freedom to Thrive campaign, One Eighty also works to break down stigma around addiction and recovery,
sharing graduates’ stories through social media and community outreach. These stories—of hope restored, families reunited, and lives rebuilt—demonstrate the profound impact of the organization.
