Help YOUR Community Champion

There is only one thing as good as making a difference in your community – helping your community champion who goes above and beyond to inspire and make lives better. Royal Neighbors members have a unique opportunity to support local community champions by nominating them for a Nation of Neighbors℠ empowerment grant.

Since 2012 Karina Lamorandier has undertaken the task of helping women who have been incarcerated as they get a start on a new life. Wings of God Transitional Home gives women a stable environment where they may gain knowledge, skills, mentoring and counseling for a minimum one-year stay. Not only do the women experience a drug and alcohol-free environment, they also are empowered to believe in themselves.

Karina shares the story of a resident who, at 17 years old, was a recovering drug addict. Wings of God provided the structure for her to become successful with her education and her sobriety. With the support of the staff who helped her find a life and work balance, she obtained her GED and is attending college to become a traveling nurse. The $10,000 grant will ensure that all residents have access to staff members to encourage them every step of the way as they reach their goals. Karina adds, “Investing in one woman at a time impacts our community and world.”

Nation of Neighbors℠, Royal Neighbors’ signature program to empower women, provides financial assistance to individuals who have a plan to start or expand a business, an organization or group that helps women and girls. Nearly $2 million has been awarded since 2007.
