Royal Neighbors of America empowers women and improves communities through philanthropy programs, such as Nation of NeighborsSM. Nation of Neighbors awards grants to support initiatives that advance the interests of women or girls.
Royal Neighbors member and Stitching a Legacy founder, McKara Caldwell shares our values. At a young age, McKara, of Viola, Illinois, was inspired to make a difference. She organized a sew-a-thon to create hand-made dresses for girls in need who may not have the opportunity to wear fashionable clothing otherwise. McKara, now a freshman at Indiana Wesleyan University, grew the sew-a-thon into a non-profit organization, Stitching a Legacy. McKara and her committed team of volunteers have made and gifted nearly 1,000 dresses to girls in group homes, domestic violence shelters, refugee safe places and hospitals.
Royal Neighbors awarded a $5,000 Nation of Neighbors grant to McKara to help her grow Stitching a Legacy and uplift more girls in more communities. McKara plans to use her grant funds to create a web site and broaden her advertising reach.
Royal Neighbors of America is honored to help McKara leave a legacy of improving young girls’ lives, one dress at a time.
