Nurturing Nature

Group of people cleaning up a park

With warmer temperatures settling in, it is a great time to plan your next project that could benefit our sweet Mother Earth. Spending time outdoors benefits your health, and it's a great opportunity to help spruce up your community at the same time. As a Member of Royal Neighbors, you can use the Difference Maker Fund (DMF) program to aid in a volunteer project that will help keep our Earth clean and beautiful. Here are a few ways you can impact your community today.

  1. Clean up your local park/beach
  2. Gather your friends and family for an afternoon cleanup. With funds received through the DMF program, you can purchase garbage bags and gloves for volunteers to use to collect trash. Start on one end of the park/beach and walk to the other collecting items as you go. Make it fun for younger volunteers – the one that collects the most garbage or most interesting item may win a prize!

  3. Help keep waterways & oceans sparkling
  4. Like cleaning up parks, it is important to keep our waterways clear of debris. Trash looks bad in our waters, and it can also cause water pollution and harm the marine life living in these systems. Gather supplies and volunteers for a walk along the banks of your local river or beaches of the nearby ocean. If you own a boat or know someone who does, head aboard and out into the waters to gather items you see along the way.

  5. Plant trees or flowers
  6. Nothing says Mother Nature like some fresh blooms or a beautiful tree. Work with a local community garden or organization to help plant floors or tree seedlings, or you can volunteer to maintain the flower beds or prune trees and shrubs as they grow. The Difference Maker Fund program awards Members $200 to purchase materials needed to complete their project. To apply for your DMF project, click here.

As always, we love to see our Members making a difference in their communities. Make sure you snap a few photos to include with your report after your project is complete.
