Members from coast to coast are using their interests, skills, hobbies, creativity and our Difference Maker Fund to make a positive impact across the nation. We have discovered that many of our members enjoy projects that include sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, building, gardening, and fund-raising.

Meal Packaging Event | Clare VanSpeybroeckClare gathered her high school friends and members of her church, family, and community to package meals for the hungry. In two hours, 255 volunteers successfully packaged 41,610 non-perishable rice casserole meals that will be distributed through River Bend Foodbank to help feed individuals in over 22 counties in two states.
Golf Fund-Raiser and Bake Sale | Marlene SundsMarlene wanted to help support girls’ softball. She worked closely with the girls on the softball team and other members of the community to host a golf outing and bake sale. Their hard work and dedication paid off; Marlene’s Difference Maker team raised nearly $5,000 to help support the local school’s softball team.
Breaking the Chains of Domestic Violence | Crystal ChatmanCrystal and her team hosted a domestic violence event that brought women, men, and youths together in a positive environment to raise awareness of domestic abuse. The team also helped a local women’s shelter by donating 35 bags filled with 65 women’s blouses and a variety of personal care products.
Fidget Quilts | Lois BerhowLois formed a team of eight volunteers that made 40 Fidget Quilts. The quilts have zippers, buttons, snaps, Velcro, shoe strings, ribbons, eyelets, small toys, and other tactile items to help engage individuals with Alzheimer’s. This Difference Maker team donated its beautiful quilts to three rest homes/senior centers.
Reading Tutor Program | Shirley GeorgeThe goal for Shirley’s Difference Maker team was to support a local program that provides free reading tutors. Her team purchased a series of non-fiction grade level books recommended by a Board of Education. The group also provided individualized instruction to children experiencing difficulty with reading.
Painting with Patients | Erika VazzanaErika wanted to share her skills and passion for art to make the days for hospitalized children and their parents a little brighter. She used the $200 Difference Maker seed money to help purchase canvases and paint supplies, and she and her team worked alongside the children to create beautiful works of art.
Operation Military Matters | Kadi TubbsKadi’s Difference Maker team supported Operation Military Matters, an organization started by two, 10 year-old girls. The team gathered together and helped package 45 boxes filled with toiletry items, socks, candy, hand-written cards and more. Difference Maker Funds were used to offset shipping expenses.
Parenting Programs and Baby Supplies | Shanae JonesShanae and her team purchased and collected much-needed baby items and created awareness for parenting programs offered through Cove Connection. The parenting programs teach prenatal and child care, nutrition, finances, and other important topics. Parents receive a complimentary package of diapers for participating in a class.
