What I Did For My Community

Our 2007 Fraternalist of the Year is dedicated to serving the needs of her ‘neighbors’

Congratulations to Beverly Christman, the 2007 Royal Neighbors Fraternalist of the Year! Her fraternal spirit crosses state lines and continents and continues to put a smile on the faces of many people who don’t even know her.

President of the Portland, OR, Royal Neighbors chapter, Beverly justly deserves this award that is designed to recognize members who go above and beyond to serve their communities.

Throughout the year, Beverly crochets hats and afghans which she distributes to the homeless near a local rescue mission, and she is responsible for developing two rose gardens at area nursing homes in memory of Portland’s veterans.

Children across the country also benefit from Beverly’s generous efforts, which include:

  • Donating hero packs to the Ronald McDonald House for the families of children who have cancer
  • Sending handmade cards to the Cards for Kids Program in Jefferson, OH
  • Making blankets for terminally ill children in Colorado for Project Linus

Her spirit of giving reaches overseas as she sends care packages to our military personnel and donates toys that are sent to children all over the world.

According to Edwina Coffey, a fellow member of the Portland chapter, “You will never find another lady doing all she does all year long and never thinking of herself.”

That sums up Beverly Christman, the 2007 Royal Neighbors Fraternalist of the Year!

Beverly and the three runners-up in the program choose the charities to receive donations from Royal Neighbors on their behalf:
