Riders
What is a rider? A rider is an "add-on" to a life insurance certificate that typically adds some extra kind of coverage to your whole life insurance, term life insurance, or universal life insurance. Riders may not be available with every life insurance certificate in every state. Riders are available for and may be subject to underwriting, an administrative fee, and/or other restrictions. Call our member sales team at (866) 845-6665, to learn more. Royal Neighbors offers the following for whole life insurance, term life insurance, or universal life insurance:
Accelerated Death Benefit* (Form Series 200572A) Senior Whole Life - 2005. Royal Neighbors will advance up to 80% of the face amount available (minimum $6,000) to insured members who are diagnosed with a terminal condition. The rider can be added after the certificate is issued, requires no premium, has no cash value and terminates at death or termination of the certificate. Death benefits and cash and loan values will be reduced if accelerated benefits are paid. The payment of benefits under this rider may be taxable and may affect eligibility for public assistance programs. You are advised to consult with your attorney or a qualified tax professional for information specific to your situation.
Accelerated Living Benefit* (Form Series 1766): Royal Neighbors will advance up to 75% of the death benefit available to insured members who are diagnosed with a terminal condition or who are confined to a qualified nursing home, subject to a minimum advance in the amount of $5,000 and maximum advance of $250,000. This rider requires no premiums. Death benefits and cash and loan values will be reduced if accelerated benefits are paid. The payment of benefits under this rider may be taxable and may affect eligibility for public assistance programs. You are advised to consult with your attorney or a qualified tax professional for information specific to your situation.
Accidental Death (Form Series 8760, 8060, and 200574A) pays an additional benefit equal to the face amount if death is due to accidental bodily injury as limited and defined in the rider; the issue age varies depending on the plan of life insurance (whole life insurance vs. term life insurance vs. universal life insurance).
Children's Benefit (Form Series 9742) provides a $5,000 benefit upon the death of a child up to register age nearest to age 15. A parent may attach this rider for a child, stepchild, or legally adopted child (ages 0-14) to her or his Universal life insurance certificate; there is an annual charge of $12.50 for females and $15 for males.
Guaranteed Insurability Purchase Option (Form Series 8563) assures that the insured may purchase additional life insurance without evidence of insurability on option dates. It is available only on standard, premium-class traditional adult life insurance (whole life insurance) certificates for ages 16-30. Limited to lesser of full amount of certificate or $20,000.
Petitioner Benefit (Form Series 8061 and 8761) waives premiums or the monthly deductions for universal life until the insured is age 21 in the event that the petitioner dies. It is available to all petitioners for junior whole life insurance and Junior Omni-Plus Universal life insurance, ages 16-60.
Premium Waiver Disability (Form Series 8062) waives premiums in case of total and permanent disability as limited and defined in the rider; age availability varies by life insurance certificate. This rider is not available on Ultimate Life insurance or any type of annuity certificates, but is available on other types of whole life insurance and term life insurance.
Providing both members hold Ultimate Life insurance certificates, Spousal Waiver of Premium (Form Series 9741) waives the monthly deduction of the surviving spouse's universal life insurance certificate premium to age 65 upon the death of either spouse. This rider requires no premiums. It is a member benefit provided free of charge by Royal Neighbors as part of our financial services. It is available for ages 16-55.
Waiver of Premium Rider Nursing Home (Form Series 200573A) Senior Whole Life - 2005. The Waiver of Premium Rider provides for premiums to be waived on the certificate if the insured is confined to a nursing home or hospice facility after a specified period of time. The rider must be added to the certificate at issue, it has no cash value, and will terminate at age 85 unless a claim under the rider is being paid.
Waiver of Monthly Deduction (Form Series 8762) waives the monthly deduction on a universal life insurance certificate in the event of total disability, as limited and defined in the rider. This rider is available for ages 16-55.
Return of Premium (Form Series 200571A): This rider is available only on the Level Premium Term to Age 95 certificate. Under the Return of Premium rider, at the end of a level premium period the sum of premiums paid equals the actual premiums paid on the base certificate, the certificate fee, plus all riders, excluding the premiums paid for substandard/flat extra and benefits paid under the contract such as premiums that have been waived or death benefits that have been accelerated. The Return of Premium rider cannot be added after issue and the rider does develop a cash value. However, the Return of Premium rider values are not available to pay future premiums. This rider is not available on a certificate that has an Accelerated Death Benefit rider. There is also an additional cost for the Return of Premium rider if the certificate has a Premium Waiver Disability rider. If the certificate is terminated prior to the end of the level premium term the rider's cash value is paid based on a percentage of the premiums under contract as shown in the Return of Premium schedule in the rider.
