ROCK ISLAND, IL– Royal Neighbors of America is proud to recognize Opal Olson, a member of Chapter 2993, Mapleton, IA, as a Fraternal MVP (Most Valuable Participant) for the week of January 7, 2008. Fraternal MVPs are “Fraternalists-in-Action” who volunteer their time and energy to strengthen their communities through participation in local chapter activities and other charitable endeavors.

“We are very proud of Opal and her volunteer efforts,” said Cynthia Tidwell, Royal Neighbors President/CEO. “She embodies the heart of neighbor-helping-neighbor through her hard work, dedication, and generosity.”

Olson has remained active in her community for several years, volunteering at the Maple Heights Nursing Home and the Mapleton Food Pantry. She has been president of the nursing home auxiliary, where the group hosts many community events. Olson organized a bread-bowl dinner fund-raiser, using some of the donations to purchase blanket heaters for the nursing home residents.

Olson and her chapter gather food for the Mapleton Food Pantry, and also deliver fruit baskets to area shut-ins. She is involved with planning activities for the monthly Royal Neighbors chapter meetings and outings.

As historian of her Royal Neighbors chapter, Olson documents all of their meeting minutes, details from community service projects and events, the member contact list, and the annual calendar. The members enjoy this information because it reflects back on all of the wonderful things the chapter has accomplished.

Fraternal MVPs are part of the NFCA’s Fraternalists-in-Action program, which recognizes individuals whose unique stories best represent 21st century fraternalism. These fraternalists demonstrate exceptional compassion and vision through their volunteer activities.

Royal Neighbors of America is a non-profit fraternal membership organization that insures lives, supports women, and serves communities. In addition to being able to purchase insurance and annuity products, its members also participate in a variety of locally based volunteer opportunities, and are eligible to apply for benefits such as scholarships and disaster aid.

Headquartered in Rock Island, IL, Royal Neighbors serves more than 230,000 members, has $2.1 billion of insurance in force, and is licensed to do business in 41 states and the District of Columbia.
